TECHNICAL GUIDANCE & EDUCATION
Advice for 'Educational Trips & Visits - Outdoor Educational Support - Technical Advice
Having worked in schools for over a decade I have been confronted by commonalities that all teachers face when trying to provide opportunities for their students.
Outdoor Adventurous Activities is delivered in all schools in some way which, without access to specialist equipment and knowledge, can put up obstacles that make it difficult to deliver the effective onsite programme students deserve. For example, you may have an existing climbing wall in-situ but no means of internal assessment to ensure staff are trained and assessed to maximise it's potential.
'Learning Outside the Classroom' is a great way to engage young people but often requires schemes of work and risk assessments that will have to suit your environment and your staff's expertise to deliver the content.
As a teacher and instructor I offer guidance to local schools that I hope will help to raise the standard of outdoor education in Bedfordshire. Whether this is through the 'Duke of Edinburgh's Award', the PE curriculum, GCSE & A Level assessments or the promotion of healthy schools and team building.
My guidance for schools can take many forms. You could require assisstance writing specific SoW for OAA inline with the 2014 proposed National Curriculum or simply require asisstance with the 'Evolve' format of trips planning. Maybe you require soft skills programmes for staff training or dedicated Orienteering blocks for maths/geography departments.
I can also provide technical guidance, training and support for all climbing & summer mountaineering activities. You may have a wall and require staff training, risk assessment and site specific qualification. Please feel free to email me.
